Chinese New Year at the Bellagio Conservatory
There is always a lot going on in the Bellagio conservatory thanks to the efforts of 140 expert horticulturists who change the exhibit five times a year. This week ushered in their latest exhibit, a celebration of Chinese New Year.
While Chinese New Year is officially celebrated on February 19 th, Las Vegas has turned the traditional Spring festival into an entire holiday season.
2015 ushers in the year of the goat, one of the few animals in the Chinese zodiac with a broad interpretation. It can also be symbolized with sheep, rams and even the occasional antelope. Goats are believed to bring love and peace. They are kind, helpful and popular, but are also clinging and tend to resist change.
The goat replaces the Horse in the Chinese calendar who is known for being energetic, independent and having a penchant for travel.
Over our six years of capturing the change of seasons, we have seen a lot of new features including live, classically train musicians performing each afternoon and a meet-and-greet with Mr. and Ms. Green Thumb who answer guest questions each morning.
The Bellagio conservatory and botanical gardens have become one of the regular stops for frequent Las Vegas visitors and locals alike. Not only do the displays change, but the look and energy changes when the sun goes down. The glass ceiling lets in the sun’s natural light during the day creating a more natural garden feel, while at night the magic of the exhibits come alive.
